PostSubject: Looking for a MSPaint alternative...   Sat May 16, 2015 8:44 am

Hey guys, been away forever, lol, just wanting to maybe make a few more microheroes again, but when I opened up my version of MSPaint, it doesn't let me make selections transparent anymore, there's issues saving...are there any other programs out there that are nice and basic like Paint but also, uh...work?

Thanks guys!

I used MSPaint, but now the most recent windows have a slightly different version simply called paint. I wonder if there's a way to get that or you could try paint.net if it's still available.

Also, to make backgrounds transparent and to transfer to bmp from gif, I always use Giffy.

I hope that helps, because that's all I can think of at the moment.

Thanks Devinity!

I downloaded paint.net, but it's, too...complex(?) for what I do? I don't use layers, and the brushes tend to erase weirdly for me, and when I copy and paste it doesn't work like when I used to use MSPaint... Maybe the software has all just gotten too complex for me lol :/

If anyone else knows a reeeeeal basic program, that'd be great haha

I had this trouble and honestly I just got used to it. When picking up something or transparency, click the 'Select' button then 'Transparent Selection' THEN select the 'Fill with Colour' and fill the background with white. Pick something up and it should be transparent. When saving save as a '.png' should keep the images clean. Hope that helps

Try pixia, it's another of the free ones but last I checked it was geared specifically to Pixel Art.

Decided to check programs and as I thought my memory is off, the last time I went software diving for specialised stuff was 2010. Anyway.... Most of these are still viable and for simplicity I'd switch my recommendation to GraphicsGale, that said I use Paint.Net for my microing. I just never use the eraser tool in it and instead use the selection tool or magic wand to delete stuff, just remember to set the Threshold to 0 (otherwise it selects what it considers anti-aliasing/similar shades).

Maybe unnecessary at this point, but I too was in search of a program to micro with back when I first got a Mac.
Its been a while now and Ive gotten comfortable with Gimp. I remember when I first used it on my PC with Paint, it was only as a way to make my micros backgrounds transparent. Since then Gimp is my main program for microing and I haven't had a problem with it.

Gimp'll let you do things that MS Paint won't, so I hear.
